In August 2018 and June 2019, the GEM Island Explorer ISLET in Yap held Youth Conferences. The purpose of these conferences was to engage young people in activities and discussions related to Indigenous practices to preserve and protect local resources and local ecological knowledges as tools to combat climate change, food insecruity, and disaster. Community organizations and elders led activities for youth. The 2018 conference focused on neighboring island youth living on Wa’ab. The 2019 conference hosted both neighboring islands and Yap proper youth. (2020)
